The Better Business Bureau serving the Northwest is warning online shoppers about a scam targeting sports fans. Several reports this month say a site claiming to be selling Seahawks gear asks consumers originally to pay with Pay Pal. Then it asks for payment via Western Union or Money Gram to speed up the transaction.

The company site says it is based in White City, Oregon. The BBB found that to be false and says the site is a fake. Investigators sent a letter to the company's mailing address only to have it returned by the Postal Service. They also found that the phone number listed is associated with at least ten other similar websites.

To protect yourself against similar scams, the BBB suggests that you know the seller. Check out the retailer with the BBB before you shop. Also, look for the seal. This company used a fake BBB seal on its site. To know if a business is truly accredited, click on the BBB icon and it should take you directly to the BBB website.

If you believe you may have been a victim of a scam, contact local law enforcement and report it to the BBB scam tracker at http://www.bbb.org/scamtracker.
