Two of the caretakers of Cashmere's 9-11 Spirit of America Memorial have been announced as the 2016 Citizens of the Year by the Cashmere Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber Manager Gina Imperato says Tom Green and Jack Pusel had overwhelming support from the community.

"Their outpouring of hours by going out to the site and cleaning up, doing all the maintenance such as shoveling all the snow plus their dedication in reaching out to the public about the memorial and what it has to offer.

Green and Pusel will be honored March 24th at the annual Chamber banquet alongside the Business of the Year winner Sure to Rise Bakery.

Imperato says they were looking for a business that thought above and beyond the bottom line.

"They are just really dedicated to community outreach by providing donations of cookies for different events throughout town and they also provide a surplus of their bread to our local food bank."

Tickets for the banquet are available for $30 and for sale from Chamber members.
