Former Seattle Mariner Julio Cruz is coming to Wenatchee. The Chelan PUD is celebrating Julio Cruz Day in Chelan County, Thursday June 29, and as a major part of the festivities, Cruz will be honored at the Wenatchee AppleSox Game against the Port Angeles Lefties.

The first 100 fans through the gates, which open at 6 p.m., will receive a mini-baseball to commemorate the event, courtesy of the Chelan County PUD.

Cruz will be available to sign autographs for fans from 6:30 to 6:50 p.m. and will throw out the first pitch. Earlier in the day, Cruz will talk baseball with youth players from around the community and take part in the AppleSox Youth Baseball Camp from 9 a.m. – noon at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium.

Cruz played six season in Seattle from 1977 to 1983 and held the team record for stolen bases until Ichiro broke it in 2008.

City of Wenatchee council members and Mayor, as well as Chelan County commissioners have proclaimed June 29 as Julio Cruz Day in recognition of his accomplishments on the field and his continued devotion to baseball.
