Chelan PUD is working with Douglas County, the Port of Douglas County, the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust and Department of Natural Resources on the proposed new recreation area  along the Columbia River, just south of the Odabashian Bridge.

Chelan PUD presented proposed naming options for the recreation area at two two open houses earlier this month.

 

  • Coyote Dunes Natural Area
  • Wenatchi Landing Natural Area
  • Sand Dune Hollow Natural Area
  • A name in tribute to Cliff and Mary Bates
  • Loop Dunes Natural Area
  • Columbia Dunes Conservation Area
  • A name in memory of Joan Vandivort
  • Hillock Conservation Natural Area

Design plans call for the property to remain primitive with a meandering trail through the area, a restroom and beach access.   The popular riverfront beach area is not a part of the natural recreation area. The beach is owned and managed by the DNR.
