Citing inadequate levels of community involvement, Representative Dan Newhouse wrote a letter to the North Cascades National Park Service Superintendent Karen Taylor-Goodrich opposing the plan to restore grizzly bears in the area. Newhouse said he's concerned that the plan is appearing to move forward, "without the use of sound science to support such a movement." He said he, "believes such decisions should be made with substantial local input and support from the local communities that will be most impacted." Newhouse said that recent public hearings were not conducted properly and that concerns were not being taken seriously.
