Threatening Message at Wenatchee High School Instigates Police Investigation
A threatening message was discovered at Wenatchee High School last week, written on a bathroom stall door. This threat was reported to the Wenatchee Police Department immediately and is being investigated by police. Since then, additional information has been received which is being investigated as well.
The district is taking the threat seriously and appropriate measures are being followed to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
Due to the fact that this is an active investigation, the police have asked that the exact threat not be released to the public at this time.
The police feel the threat lacks credibility because of the low visibility of the message—the entire message was written within a two-inch square in pencil in the last stall of a female bathroom. According to police, a female committing an act of school violence is extremely rare.
All Wenatchee High School parents were contacted on Friday by a phone recording, and the staff read the same message to their students at the end of the school day. The information was also posted on the WHS Facebook page.
The district is committed to keeping parents and the public informed on the situation, and will continue to provide updates.
This is a police investigation, and the district is cooperating fully. Any person who has information regarding who may be responsible for the threat should contact the Wenatchee Police Department at (509) 663-9911.
