Saturday evening's Run With A Cop fundraiser in East Wenatchee was a big hit according to event coordinator,  Wenatchee Police Officer Jerrod Sheppard.

The event raised funds for Special Olympics Wenatchee.  Before the runners headed out onto the course, East Wenatchee Police Chief Randy Harrison, Wenatchee Chief Steve Crown, Douglas County Harvey Gjesdal and State Patrol Captain Huss thanked the participants for supporting Special Olympics and the inaugural Run With A Cop event.  Chelan County Sheriff Brian Burnett was out of town and could not attend.  The Special Olympics Gold Medal winning softball team from Wenatchee was also recognized before the run.

Then at 8pm, about 90 participants headed out onto the 5K course on the Apple Capital Loop Trail from the Fred Meyer parking lot.  The course went across the pipeline bridge and north on the loop trail to a turnaround point.

The first ever event drew lots of families with young children and several officers ran or jogged the course in full uniform or full S.W.A.T. gear.
