A bill working it's way through the State Senate would limit future increases on vehicle licenses taxes collected for the next phases of Sound Transit's regional plan in the Puget Sound. To push Senate Bill 5893, University Place Republican Steve O'Ban and the Senate Transportation Committee has included an amendment to the transportation budget.

"In the hopefully unlikely happening that it does not pass the legislature then this amendment would kick in and it would prevent DOL from collecting that unfair [tax] for Sound Transit."

SB 5893 would limit vehicle license taxes to the value stated by Kelley Blue Book or National Automobile Dealers Association. O'Ban says this should send a clear message to Sound Transit.

"You need to come up with a solution that benefits all motorists, all taxpayers. It doesn't try to pit one group against the other. Everyone's feeling this exorbitant, unrealistic and frankly unconstitutional tax."
