Study Shows NCW Drivers Are Distracted
Inattention and distraction remained the number one contributing factor in the 2015 Annual report of vehicle collisions.
The Washington Traffic Safety Commission reported injury accidents every 11 minutes and a deadly collision every 16 hours. Total fatalities jumped 20% from 2014. The report said a vehicle was involved in a collision every 4 and a half minutes in 2015
New 2016 statistics are out and show over 11% of Chelan County drivers and 17% of Douglas County drivers are distracted behind the wheel. The rate of distracted driving in Grant County was 12.4% The lowest rate was recorded in Cowlitz County at just 3.6% and the highest rate was found in Kitsap County at 20.5% just above Kittitas County's rate of 20.1% The statewide average was just over 9%.
Distracted driving included using a phone, eating, attending to pets or children and tuning a radio.
