It took just two hours for jurors to acquit Bernard Swaim who had been accused of the murder of Stephen Smith in 1982.   Swaim's defense attorney Nick Yedinak and Chelan County Prosecutor Doug Shae told The Wenatchee World that after four days of testimony, the jury said Swaim was not guilty in part due to the unreliable testimony of the key witness in the case, Swaim's ex-wife Dawn Soles.

Swaim had been arrested by Chelan County Sheriff's Deputies last year after reopening the cold case.  Swaim had spent the past six months in the Chelan County Regional Justice Center, but is now free.
