The JC Penney Store in Wenatchee has survived an announced closure of 138 stores nationwide. The list of stores slated for closure was released this morning and the only location in the Evergreen state to be shutdown is in Snohomish.
The department store chain announced the closings earlier this year as it works to overcome competition from online retailers.
Approximately 5,000 positions nationwide will be impacted by the store closures, most of which will occur in June. The company announced it was in the process of identifying relocation opportunities within the company and will provide outplacement support services for those eligible associates who will be leaving the retailer.
JC Penney plans liquidation sales in April at most of it’s affected stores.
