Police are actively looking for an unknown suspect who they believe made bomb threats Thursday, and again on Friday night in Leavenworth.

The threat Thursday led to the closure of US 2 through through the city, and the evacuation of downtown Leavenworth for roughly four hours.

The initial threat was phoned in to Wenatchee Emergency Dispatchers, which resulted in police and fire crews evacuating the area shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon. An explosives team with the Washington State Patrol determined there was no threatening devices around 9 p.m. Thursday night and reopened the area.

According to Chelan County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Rob Huddleston, another bomb threat was phoned in on Friday. "I believe that some of the local businesses were evacuated again."

Huddleston says the department is taking the bomb threats very seriously, and mentioned the FBI could become involved in the investigation.

Huddleston says that deputies have been focusing on downtown Leavenworth, and keeping watch for any suspicious activity over the weekend. "Today we have a couple of deputies downtown in the Leavenworth area looking for any suspicious activity. So far there have been no calls today."

Chelan County Sheriff's Office Chief Adam Musgrove is asking everyone in the Leavenworth community for cooperation and patience as police and first responders continue to work in the area.
