Big Bend Community College will now offer a Bachelor of Applied Science in Applied Management, the first bachelor's degree offered at the college. The State Board of Community and Technical Colleges gave the college approval to offer the degree.

"It's especially important for the rural service area that we provide our services to. Many of them are locked in place without the ability to go outside the area for a Bachelor's degree," said Matthew Killebrew, director of communications.

Big Bend reached out to business and industry partners a year ago and gathered community feedback that pushed them in the direction to feel confident the degree would help the area.

"A lot of our business and industry partners were looking for employees with that skill set to step up and take management roles," said Killebrew. "We think not only is it going to help our students, but it will help our business and industry community as well."
