The East Wenatchee City Council is waiting to work through some finer details before voting on an ordinance that would ban all fireworks within the city except for non-aerial fireworks during New Years.

The council voted 4-3 Tuesday night to table discussion of the measure until after the council meets with staff next Thursday, with Council Member John Sterk among those voting in favor.

"We need time in our workshop to discuss some of this. I have read and re-read the agenda bill. I've had it explained to me by council and I still have questions." Sterk said, "I think it would be a wonderful idea to kick this around at workshop."

Part of the discussion will surround some new additions to the recent string of firework ban proposals. The newest measure bans the possession and storage of aerial fireworks and more clearly defines what they are.

Violators under the proposed ordinance would be fined $100 by the city for their first offense and $175 for every subsequent violation.
