Grant PUD staff and engineering consultants are considering three route alternatives near Royal City for the new 'Red Rock' 115-kilovolt transmission line. The PUD is holding two workshops, January 29 and February 5, to gauge public feedback and potential impacts before giving commissioners a final recommendation for approval.

"This is to discuss construction. We're going to build a new transmission line," said Christine Pratt, Grant PUD spokeswoman. "This is something Royal City has been waiting for for a long time."

According to Pratt, the line will originate at the substation located in the Frenchman Hills and then run along three potential routes into Royal City to travel to the Red Rock substation.

"The workshops will give people a close up look at detailed maps of each of these three routes and give feedback on them. Just to let us know what they think of each route, what their preferred route would be and then we would compile all of those results and take them into account when we're choosing the final route for the transmission line," said Pratt.

The workshops are at the Port of Royal Slope on January 29th and February 5th, starting at 4 and wrapping up by 7. Estimated timing for project completion is March of 2022.
