Boaters are being urged to avoid the Rocky Reach Dam area this Saturday as Chelan PUD continues a buoy replacement project.

The utility says a helicopter will be flying in the area to place the buoys that keep boaters 400 feet away from the spillway and the end of the fish bypass.

There were originally three buoys of which only one remains.

Chelan PUD is replacing them with five buoys designed to withstand high flow and have reduced drag.

A solar-powered light on each one will make them more visible at night.
