The Kittitas County Sheriff's Office and their Search and Rescue team helped rescue a 27-year-old Ellensburg resident who had gotten stuck on a rock ledge in the French Cabin Creek area Sunday.

Deputies say Austin Williams had gone a day hike when he attempted to cross a creek, became stuck and lost most of his equipment in the water.

He sent two text messages looking for help and was found quickly search and rescue.

A helicopter was requested from Whidbey Island Naval Air Station and he was hoisted to safety.

Williams was left with Sheriff's deputies after being checked out by medics.

The Sheriff's Office says it's a reminder of the importance of being prepared, telling someone where you're going and to exercise caution.
