Mission Ridge is making history this spring by extending its schedule into the month of May for the first time in 39 years.

The resort operates on a mix of state and US Forest Service land under a special use permit that ends each year on April 30th.

This year, Mission Ridge is able to round out its closing weekend to include Sunday, May 1st under special permission from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The resort says it plans to be open from 9am-4pm on that day, although it hasn't determined which lifts will operate.

It's advising the public to check out conditions and operations at its website before heading to the mountain.

Mission Ridge announced late last week that it would stay open into the last weekend of April after receiving what's though to be a record four feet of snow over the course of four days.

That heavy snowfall coincided with an unusually high accumulation of snow in the Wenatchee area earlier in April.

Link Transit has also announced it will operate its free SkiLink service to Mission Ridge on Sunday May 1.
