Chelan County Emergency Management was called out to rescue a climber on Mt. Stuart late Tuesday night.

Sgt. Kent Sisson says the person suffered major injuries including a fractured leg, fractured arm and head injuries.

"A Navy rescue helicopter attempted a rescue [Tuesday] night but due to the location of the injured subject, they weren't able to safely complete the rescue. We've been working on it all day [Wednesday]. We ended up putting in some Chelan County Mountain Rescue members on to the mountain. They are in the process of attempting to lower the victim onto a glacier about 1,000 feet below the location of the accident where they Navy will be able to come in and hoist the victim out."

The expectation was a naval helicopter would be able to complete the mission Wednesday night.

Sgt. Sisson says it's very rocky terrain made tougher by the elevation and the heat.

No information was provided about the hiker other than that they were female.
