North Cascades Highway Opening May 5th

The Washington State Department of Transportation says the North Cascades Highway will reopen on Wednesday, May 5th at 1 p.m.

According to their Facebook page, DOT crews are finishing final repairs and avalanche control work before they open the gates east of Newhalem and west of Mazama.

Teams were clearing snow and doing other work for about four weeks to open the highway.

WSDOT is asking that everyone follow COVID safety protocols if you want to gather to drive over the scenic route as it's opening.
