One person is dead and two Soap Lake residents are injured from a Thursday night crash on Interstate 90 west of Vantage.

The State Patrol says a 2009 Honda Civic was heading east when the driver attempted to pass another car illegally from the right before it spun around, hit a guardrail, and then hit a rock wall before coming to rest 20 feet off the roadway.

Trooper John Bryant says the driver made a series of poor decisions.

"Heavy downpour, visibility was poor, poor decision on the lane change, and it caused the vehicle to go off the roadway, and unfortunately it ended up in the passing of one of its passengers," said Bryant.

Drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the crash that killed a 37-year-old passenger and injured the driver, 23-year-old Brayan Verdusco and 50-year-old passenger Laura Sanchez-Valtierra.

The identity of the dead passenger is still not known.

The crash occurred eastbound on I-90 near the Rye Grass rest area on a hill before the interstate begins to slope down hill towards the town of Vantage.
