UPDATE:

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the events that took place in the shooting detailed below.

Since the shooting involved the Wenatchee Police Department, that agency will not be involved in a Special Investigative Unit assembled to look into the shooting incident in order to maintain independence.

The North Central Washington Special Investigation Unit (NCW SIU) includes investigators from the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office, East Wenatchee Police Department, Wenatchee Police Department, and Washington State Patrol.

A special investigation is underway after an officer involved shooting fatality Saturday morning in the Downtown Wenatchee area.

Early accounts reveal the incident involved a man who was shooting at Living Hope Community Church - 11 N Chelan Ave. The man was approached by a Wenatchee Police officer.

The man reportedly shot at the police officer, hitting the officer in the leg. The officer returned fire and reportedly killed the man. The condition of the officer is not known.

The incident is reported to have taken place at 8:27 am Saturday.

Living Hope Community Church is an intersection almost directly across the street from Memorial Park, which is the major staging area for the annual Apple Blossom Festival. The park is expected to draw large crowds for its final weekend of events, now taking place.

Several police agencies are involved in the investigation of the shooting, including the Chelan County Sheriff's Office and Washington State Patrol. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office was also on the scene.
