Pedestrian Dead in U.S. 97 Crash Near Okanogan
A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a car while walking on U.S. 97 just south of the town of Okanogan Saturday evening.
Troopers say the unidentified 33-year-old woman was at fault by walking into the southbound lane before being hit by a car driven by 43-year-old Robert Funston of Wenatchee.
Funston's car was then hit by an SUV driven by Jose Murillo Figueroa of Okanogan.
Figueroa was taken to Mid Valley Hospital with injuries while Funston was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
Neither driver is facing any charges as it was determined the pedestrian failed to yield while walking southbound on U.S. 97.
Troopers are not identifying the pedestrian until relatives are notified. The pedestrian is from Yakima.
Funston was driving a 1998 Ford Escort. Murillo Figueroa was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer. Washington State Troopers were called to the crash just after 5 p.m. Saturday.
It's unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in the pedestrian's behavior.
