Rock Island Structure Fire Destroys Mobile Home Friday Afternoon

Firefighting efforts are winding down after a structure fire on Penn Avenue in Rock Island Friday afternoon.

Douglas County Fire District 2 Spokesperson Kay McKellar said crews received the call just after 2:00 pm Soon after, the incident commander arrived at the scene and reported a single-wide mobile home on fire, as well as some nearby tires.

"He had done what we call the '360', which is checking around the building. He advised it was 3/4 involved." said McKellar, "They did prepare water supply and attacked the fire."

There are no known injuries at this time and the building is thought to be unoccupied. The cause is unknown.
