Picture this: a brand-new aquatic center splashing to life in Quincy, complete with thrilling waterslides and a lazy river for everyone to enjoy.

The city is considering two separate project proposals from NAC Architecture, either a 20,000 sq. ft. indoor pool or a 30,000 sq. ft. recreation center that could also serve as a community center.

Members of a group of local governments and organizations took turns speaking in favor of the measure Tuesday.

On Dec. 7, Sen. Hawkins told local legislators that this would be the last meeting he would be leading before heading to Olympia for the 2023 legislative session starting January.

The bipartisan bill is co-sponsor is 22nd District Democratic Sen. Sam Hunt, whose Olympia-based district is also considering an aquatic center.

The estimated $300,000 study has a commitment for roughly a third of its financing from the regional Public Facilities District, with the other two thirds thought to be coming from the two counties.

There's been a high level of interest in the topic and state Senator Brad Hawkins held a large meeting about a possible aquatic center earlier this month.

The purpose of this meeting was to gather more information on the vision on this project and determine whether they will be building a 50-meter Olympic-size pool, or a combined aquatic and recreational sports center.

The Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority is looking at leading a study on building an aquatic center with the possible inclusion of a sports complex.  The project would be built on a 283-acre site known as Wenatchi Landing at the Odabashian Bridge and Sunset Highway near East Wenatchee.  ...
