A crash on the George Sellar Bridge is slowing traffic, with backups extending toward Rock Island along SR-28.

Traffic on the bridge between Wenatchee and East Wenatchee was backed up when police, fire and rescue vehicles arrived on the scene just after 5pm.

The fire is being called suspicious at this point and the cause has not been determined.

Police say the 32-year-old man who climbed the George Sellar Bridge led to its closure for about an hour before they were able to talk him down with promises of cigarettes and water.

The suspect repeatedly told officers he was not suicidal, but that he just wanted a better view of Wenatchee.

Crews will start on the westbound side at 7:00 am Saturday morning using an under-bridge inspection truck, or UBIT
