The Chelan Douglas Land Trust is suing a property owner who used heavy equipment to carve into a hillside in No. 1 Canyon west of Wenatchee.
The Land Trust claims the property owner's excavation extensively damaged the Trust's adjacent land and led to the Trust losing funding for 50 percent of the value of that land.
Construction is set to start next week on four flood basins in No. 1 Canyon just west of Wenatchee in the Cascade Mountain foothills.
The canyon has been prone to flooding that leads to heavy runoff of mud and debris during high intensity storms.
A consultant for the Chelan County Flood Control Zone District designed the series of four basins on 21 acres at the end of No. 1 Canyon Road that'll capture, and release flood flows downstream in an attempt to minimize future damage.
