All involved are safe and unharmed after a water rescue on Porter's Pond, part of the Columbia River, in East Wenatchee Thursday.

Douglas County Fire District 2 Spokesperson Kay McKellar says authorities received a call around 6pm from a woman who reported that her sister and a friend were on a small peninsula on the river when the water rose, cutting off their way back.

"Crews were dispatched. They thought it might be too difficult to take the marine boat because it was too shallow." explained McKellar, "So firefighters did go out in their inflatable boats to rescue the folks that were out on this little island."

The two people were brought back to shore safely. Several fire engines responded, as did Ballard Ambulance.
