A stretch of US 12 will soon become safer to drive on thanks to a $200,000 donation from Kershaw Companies.

The money will be used to partly fund the construction of an eastbound acceleration lane at Low Road. That will allow drivers the necessary room and distance to speed up before merging with traffic on the 60 MPH roadway. Every year, WSP responds to multiple serious collisions along the 8 mile stretch of highway.

On Friday March 31, WSP will present Kershaw Companies with a "Quality Recognition Award" for their donation. Federal funds will cover the rest of the cost. The project should be finished by late spring.
