The Bureau of Land Management recently proposed changes to its regulations governing the administration of timber sales. The changes aim to make the process of forest thinning and more prevalent while providing for a quicker turnaround on sales.

4th District Representative Dan Newhouse said the move will allow public and private lands to be managed more with the intention of preventing catastrophic fires.

"It's a long process to change the situation that we face with the health of our forest. But we've got to get started. We've got to be able to make that first step." explained Newhouse, "This is one of those that I think will be critical in allowing us and helping us to be more successful in better managing our public lands."

In a separate move, the Bureau of Land Management appointed Barry Bushue as the State Director for Oregon and Washington Monday.
