During last week's Wenatchee City Council meeting, the vote was unanimous to ban medical marijuana cooperatives but residents can grow their own marijuana with a maximum of 15 plants, provided neighbors can't see it or smell it.  According to a report in the World, residents would need permission from a doctor who would determine how many plants an individual can grow.  Violations would be civil infractions that carry a series of escalating fines for repeated violations.

The Council also decided the speed limit on Maiden Lane from Wenatchee Avenue to Western Avenue would remain a 25 mph zone. City staff requested the Council increase the speed limit to 30 to better match driving behavior.  Council members rejected the proposal, largely on the grounds a speed increase would make the area where Maiden Lane curves into Western a 35 mph zone and  more dangerous.

Public Works Director Matt Leonard told council members the City has a significant water problem. The city lost 300-million gallons during 2015, due to leaks. The World reports the City's 86-year old, 8-million gallon underground reservoir is a primary problem, suffering from major leakage. In 2008 the City spent just over $581,000 patching up leaks in the aging reservoir.
