Grant County Sheriff's Detectives are investigating the near death of an inmate at Grant County Jail.

The man was in a single-occupancy cell when corrections deputies found him Friday morning in what looked like an attempted suicide by hanging.

Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman says life-saving measures were begun by deputies, and continued by Ephrata firefighters and paramedics when they arrived.

"The inmate was transferred by helicopter to a Spokane hospital for treatment and right now he is still in the hospital as far as I am aware. His family has been notified and the Grant County Sheriff's Detectives are investigating."

The Sheriff's Office is not identifying the man, or providing any details about him, out of respect for his and his family's privacy.
