After services last year were canceled due to COVID-19, remembrances were held on Memorial Day to remember those who lost their life in service to this county.

East Wenatchee Mayor Jerrilea Crawford was participating in her first services in an official capacity.

"So often we are busy and just move about our day, move about our lives, and to stop and remember those who served for us and died for us. It's really meaningful to take a pause and celebrate and remember them."

VFW Post 3617 Commander Brad Pieratt says it's a sacred day.

"It's a day that we remember them, remember their sacrifice and we also remember their families' sacrifice who have gone through this."

Wenatchee Mayor Frank Kuntz says this was an important event to return.

"It seems like everything is just a battle right now and it's nice to be able to come together as a community in the middle of the Pedestrian Bridge. Two communities, two cities and counties coming together to pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice."

Pieratt says he hopes we honor the men and women who died in service to our country.

"It's important that we keep these members that we've lost at the forefront of our mind and we need to live for them. They fought for something very important and it's important for us to realize that and to live their dream."

Memorial events were held at cemeteries in both Wenatchee and East Wenatchee, along with the Pedestrian Bridge and Pybus.
