From a press release - Grant County Sheriff’s K-9 Chicka and handler Cpl. Ric Char helped catch one of two home burglary suspects near Soap Lake this morning.

Deputies were called around 3:30 a.m. by a homeowner in the 3300 block of Trout Lodge Road NE who said there was someone who had broken into their house. While deputies and Ephrata police were enroute, the homeowner said a man and woman fled the house and drove away in a blue Ford Explorer.

Deputies found the Explorer abandoned a short distance away. K-9 Chicka, deputies and Ephrata police officers were enlisted to search for the suspects. After a short track that turned into an open area search, K-9 Chicka found and captured 45-year-old Kellie E. Lewis of Moses Lake hiding in the sagebrush about 40 yards away. Lewis was transported to Columbia Basin Hospital for treatment due to contact with Chicka.

Deputies learned the second suspect was 45-year-old David Harris from Moses Lake. Deputies and officers searched the area for Harris, until he called awhile later from his home on Neppel Road to report his Explorer had been stolen. Deputies went to the home and arrested him.

Both Harris and Lewis are lodged in the Grant County Jail on suspicion of residential burglary.
