Chelan County Fire District 3 Crews working to suppress a fire that broke out early Tuesday evening in the Tumwater Canyon West of Leavenworth. The fire closed US Highway 2 for about an hour but firefighters succeeded in containing the blaze to about an acre. No structures were threatened.

Chelan County District 3 Chief Kelly O'Brien says the fire could have grown much larger, if not for the quick coordinated response by upper valley fire agencies.

O'Brien credits the teamwork of fire districts 3, 6, 9, Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue, Forest Service and DNR personnel that limited a fire to one acre in the steep, rocky terrain about 1 mile west of Leavenworth. He said the point of origin has been located and the Forest Service is investigating the cause.  O'Brien said the cause is potentially "human caused"
