The Wenatchee city council will vote Thursday on proposals to change the speed limits for three city streets.

Two of the potential changes are speed limit decreases. Washington Street from Orondo to King would see the limit dropped from 30 to 20 MPH. The limit on Highway 97A from milepost 201.5 to 201.69 would be lowered from 60 to 45 MPH.

The other change to be voted on is a speed limit increase. Maiden Lane from Wenatchee to Western could see the speed limit bumped up from 25 to 30 MPH. Public Works Director Matt Leonard says speed limits, in some cases, are determined by how fast 85% of the drivers are going. According to Leonard, data shows that most drivers on Maiden Lane travel closer to 30 MHP.

If the speed limit changes are approved, it will take at least 60 days for the changes to go into effect. The city council meets Thursday at 5:15 p.m. at City Hall.
