A new exhibit funded by NASA, My Sky, will be unveiled to the public this Friday, October 4 at the Wenatchee Museum and Cultural Center. This interactive exploration of astronomical science is targeted toward both adults and children.

"It's a really immersive, inspiring exhibition designed to engage adults and children in early investigations of astronomical science," said Ashley Sinner, public relations. "This is all about looking up and observing the sky above us and not just looking up at the exhibit, but through your everyday lives."

The exhibit features three forms of activities for guests to rotate through or visitors can stay stalled at one point of interest - a skate park for children to explore the sun, a children's room for an investigation of the moon and stars and a backyard feature with the sun, the moon and the stars together.

"The exhibit teaches foundational science skills; such as observing, noticing patterns, predicting, estimating and thinking creatively. These are fundamental skills in all science so it serves as a building block to later, more complex STEM thinking, which we of course do at the museum also," said Sinner.

My Sky exhibit is also paired with a website that includes a tour of the universe and provides a variety of fun facts about the moon, stars and sun.

"This is a collaboration project that was a partnership through Boston Children's Museum and Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and funded in part by NASA, so it's a huge deal and has a lot behind it," said Sinner.

Museum visitors have a chance to view the exhibit until January 4, 2020.
