Douglas County Fire District 5 recently received two grants for a total of more than $13,000.

Chief Tyler Caille says they received $3,000 from Northwest Farm Credit Services which will buy two automatic chest compression devices.

"Which is extremely beneficial, especially in the rural settings with limited responders. These are devices that can be put on to actually do automatic chest compressions for cardiac arrest patients while responders are tending to other needs of the emergency. It's a great upgrade and benefit to all our community members in the Mansfield area."

Caille says they also got a little more than $10,000 from DNR through the 2021 Volunteer Fire Assistance Phase 2 Grant Program.

"What that will do for us is a couple of different things for the Fire District. First it's going to provide some mechanical upgrades needed for one of our water tenders. It's also going to complete the final buildout for a new heavy brush truck that we've been working on since last year to supplement our wildland fire equipment fleet."

Caille says the NFCS grant is not as well known, but available for all nearby agencies.
