FEMA announced Thursday that it has authorized federal funds to help with firefighting costs associated with the Red Apple Fire.

According to the administration, it was determined the fire threatened to cause a major disaster. Thus, the State of Washington's request for a federal Fire Management Assistance Grant, or FMAG was granted. Through the FMAG, FEMA will make funding available to pay for 75 percent of firefighting costs, and an additional $778,778 will be available for mitigating wildfire related hazards like flood or erosion.

None of the federal funds will provide assistance to individual homes or business owners and will not cover other infrastructure damage caused by the fire.
