The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest plans to begin the fall prescribed fire season this week near Peshastin.

According to the National Forest, 100 acres in the upper Peshastin area will be burned by fire specialists as part of a larger project that aims to see 1,700 acres treated in the Wenatchee River Ranger District. Crews will also burn 100 acres on the Entiat Ranger District next week.

The work is weather dependent and could be cancelled. Smoke will be very visible to people traveling along Highway 97 and will also be seen at times from Cashmere and Wenatchee.
