Douglas County Fire District No. 4 responded to a report of structure fire on Badger Mountain just before 9 p.m. Saturday night. After arrival, a garage was found fully engulfed by flames.

"When we were responding, we could actually see the fire about 15 miles out," said Chief Jim Oatey.

The owner reported that he had been working in the garage, went home and when he returned two hours later, the garage was consumed by fire. The garage was newly constructed and completed two weeks ago.

"They had been working on it earlier in the day and had a fire in the wood stove," said Chief Oatey.

According to Chief Oatey, there were difficulties accessing the garage due to the rural area and being on top of Badger Mountain along with road conditions. 4-wheel drive was required to access the garage. Fire engines and water tenders stayed back on the county road while wildland brush trucks attacked the fire.

Units responded from Orondo Fire, Waterville Fire, East Wenatchee Fire, Waterville EMS, Ballard Ambulance and the Douglas County Sheriff Department with 18 emergency responders on-scene.

There were no injuries.
