Congresswoman Dr. Kim Schrier was at East Wenatchee City Hall for a town hall Saturday.

"I thought it was a great meeting. I thought it was well attended. I didn't count the number of people here but it felt like a good crowd and a very engaged crowd." Schrier said, "The issues that came up did not surprise me. It was about health care and our natural environment, mental health, housing, economics, wages. These were kitchen table issues and that's what people feel most acutely right now."

Healthcare was easily the most prominently mentioned subject. While the freshman congresswoman delved into many aspects surrounding healthcare, she was quick to add that she expected little in the way of meaningful legislation. She cited the deep divide between the Democrat-led House of Representatives and the Republican Senate and president as the main culprit.

The 8th District representative was not without good news, though. Dr. Schrier told NewsRadio 560 KPQ that once she gets back to Washington D.C., more progress is expected regarding the opioid epidemic.

"Well there's a real urgency around mental health and the opioid epidemic." added Schrier, "It's not that we weren't working on this already. We are already, and we have task forces in place, but every time I come home that issue comes up and i think it's just hitting really close to home. We're all feeling it and there's just added urgency."
