Washington State Patrol will have more troopers hit the road for the New Year's Eve holiday for an emphasis patrol on impaired driving. WSP is among ten other states in the Western States Traffic Safety Coalition participating in the emphasis patrol.

"Washington State Patrol has joined the Western States Traffic Safety Coalition to send a unified message to everyone traveling in our states that we're all going to be looking for impaired drivers and remove them from our roadways to make it safer for everyone," said Sergeant Darren Wright.

Arizona Department of Public Safety, California Highway Patrol, Colorado State Patrol, Idaho State Police, Montana Highway Patrol, Nevada Highway Patrol, Oregon State Police, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Utah Highway Patrol, Washington State Patrol, and the Wyoming Highway Patrol are also participating.

An average of 300 people die in the US each year in impaired driving crashes alone the week between Christmas and New Year’s.
