The Chelan Douglas Port Authority owns the airport and is faced with the reality that the runway has outlived its useful life

Christopher Hamilton Clemens was not eligible to hold a government contract based on a previous bribery case.

The last time it had any rehabilitation work done on it was in 1999, which means it's now being used beyond its 20-year pavement life.

The purchase will complete the acreage desired to provide a clear zone for the runway approach after the Port bought half the acreage last year.

The process will unlock federal money to make improvements at the airport but must first fulfill changes required by Federal Aviation Administration.

Federal funding to cover more than half the cost has been elusive, but is moving through the process with the help of Congress members.
