Chelan Fire and Rescue, along with Entiat and Orondo, are looking for members of the community to be volunteer firefighters with the 2020 Academy beginning January 21st.

Assistant Fire Chief Brandon Asher says being a volunteer allows you to help your neighbors.

"All the communities around here have a shortage of volunteer firefighters. It's a national trend. We're working hard to get our numbers built back up and give people a chance to assist in the big wildland fires we get every summer up here in Chelan. Of course we also have the Lake and that's always a challenge, along with the population increase. This allows everybody to do their part and help and be a part of the community."

Asher says they are hoping to find people who want to give back to the community and be able to answer as many pages as possible.

"We also understand everybody's home and personal life comes as a priority and that they're not always available at all hours of the day. That's why we try to have a large pool of firefighters available so that hopefully we can get as many as possible when we need them."

To apply in Chelan, contact Assistant Chief Asher by phone or by stopping Station 71.
