Almost $200,000 in wildfire education grant money has been distributed to two local efforts, Cascadia Conservation District and Wenatchee's Wildfire Project. Department of Commerce awarded the $194,000 to the two entities to promote education and outreach on wildfires.

The Cascadia Conservation District provides landowners technical and financial assistance with natural resource projects. The non-regulatory entity was also recently awarded a $25,000 No Child Left Inside grant from Washington State Recreation and Conservation office to disperse amongst a variety of upcoming projects for students.

"It will go to support our Kids in the Creek program, which is for tenth grade students," said Amanda Newell, Education and Outreach Specialist. This is a three day program held out at the Entiat Fish Hatchery that reaches about 300 students.

Some of the funds will also funnel into the Kids in the Forest program that is a Mission Ridge hike. This program reaches roughly 1,500 kids between grades fifth through seventh grade however sometimes younger or older kids trickle in as well.
"This funding makes it possible for Cascadia to keep bringing these great programs to mostly Chelan and Douglas County students, but we also have some Okanogan students that participate in the Kids in the Creek program," said Newell.
The funding will also bring in natural resource experts to the education stations.
