Washington State Department of Natural Resources, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management are coordinating on Okanogan County prescribed burns this spring.

The three agencies will tackle over 250 acres of land in northern Okanogan County, south of Loomis. The prescribed burning will be on BLM land, WDFW land and DNR land. The cross boundary work is an element of a 20 year Forest Health Strategic Plan.

"The forest health crisis does not respect property lines, therefore we're working together to address these problems across these lines," said Kate Williams, DNR prescribed fire program manager.

The overall treatment goal is 1.2 million acres by 2037. Prescribed burning is a tool to combat future catastrophic fires.
