The Washington State Department of Natural Resources has increased the fire danger rating for the Upper Basin Fire Danger Rating Area, which includes Grant and Douglas County, to extreme.

It joins the Lower Basin Rating Area which also included Grant County, but extended through Yakima down into Benton and Franklin Counties and along the Columbia River.

The change means fires of any kind are prohibited on DNR-managed lands and asks residents to be extremely cautious with any activity that might spark a fire.
