The Grant County Health District confirmed the presence of toxic blue-green algae on Moses Lake Friday.

They said that while the samples they took were from Blue Heron and Connelly parks, it is safe to assume that the entire lake could have the toxic algae.

The Health District is recommending avoiding all contact with Moses Lake including recreational activities, don't drink the lake water, keep all pets and livestock away from the water and clean fish caught in the lake thoroughly and discard their guts.

The algae can cause serious illness with symptoms including rashes to gastrointestinal distress from nausea/vomiting, abdominal pain/distention, whole body weakness, severe thirst from dehydration, jaundice, rapid/weak pulse, and rarely to shock progressing to death.
