The Washington State Department of Health says the number of heat-related deaths over the past week-plus is now 78 which is twice as many as during the warm months of 2015 to 2020 combined.

Nineteen counties in total have reported heat-related deaths though the largest number was in King and Pierce Counties.

More than 2,000 heat-related emergency department (ED) visits were reported by hospitals that transmit data to the state between June 25th and July 1st.

One person in Douglas County died from heat-related complications, none in Chelan or Grant Counties.
